This is the recipe of a very delicious curry that my mom makes at home. Its main ingredients are Bottle gourd (lauki) and Bengal Gram (Chana daal).
Ingredients:
1. Bottle Gourd (lauki), 2 of them chopped into small cubes
2. One cup Bengal Gram (chana dal) soaked in water for 2 hours
3. One tea spoon dried Corriander/Cilantro powder (dhaniya powder)
4. One tea spoon mustard seeds (Rai)
5. One tea spoon cumin seed (Jeera) powder
6. One tea spoon garam masala (Don't know what it's called in English)
7. Salt
8. 3 tea spoon cooking oil
9. A pinch of turmeric (haldi)
10. One tea spoon red chili powder (laal mirch)
Preparation:
Soak the Bengal Gram in water for 15 minutes. Once the gram has been soaked properly, heat some oil in a pan. Once the oil is hot enough, add mustard seeds and wait till the seeds start to pop with a noise. Then add the gram to the pan and saute it for 1 minute. As soon as the gram turns a little golden, add corriander powder, cumin seed powder, red chili powder, turmeric and garam masala to the gram. Saute it for another minute. Then add the chopped bottle gourd to this mixture and saute for another minute. Then cover the pan with a lit and cook for 5 minutes. Remove the lid, and add 2 tea spoons of water, stir the curry and place the lid again and cook for another 5 minutes. Remove the lid, add salt and stir the curry. Garnish it with some corriander leaves and the curry is ready to serve.
